Milkshake

Yeah… so, do you remember that one time when I got cocky and decided to get all “bossy pants” on you guys and tell you all of the things that I’ve been doing to stay on track? Well, that may have been a bit premature.

I have worked out a total of ONE time this week. I could give you a list of excuses because there are plenty (aren’t there always?) but that would just be boring so we’ll skip that part.

Since I hadn’t worked out I was going nuts! I had been craving a good outdoor run all week and finally today I got the chance to do it.

run

Ahhhhh… those are angels singing

Today was gorgeous! It was a whopping 50 degrees outside so I strapped my baby in the jogging stroller (when she decided to go all Rosa Parks on me during nap time) and thawed out a little in the sunshine.

To be honest, I only really like to run when I’m in shape… and I’m not. But there is something to be said about putting in your ear buds and having a little afternoon dance party in your head.

What I like about running is the uninterrupted amount of time I get to spend daydreaming about how hot I will be in a few months. During these runs I’m no longer a 32-year-old lady with two kids but an 18-year-old whose milkshake brings all the boys to the yard and they’re like it’s better than your’s, damn right…

Okay, I’ll quit.

Another reason I have to listen to music while I’m running is so that I can’t hear myself gasping for air. This is a key component.

One thing I’m sure of is that pushing a stroller while running isn’t as easy as it looks. So if you ever see some scrawny little lady pushing a double stroller at mock speed give her a high five… or don’t. That could get awkward because she won’t know it’s coming.

Up until this point, the weather had been so cold that you couldn’t stand to be outside for more than two seconds. I could feel my pores screaming for some vitamin D so I bought a ton of mushrooms which is supposed to be super high in it.

I got white button mushrooms and Portobello mushroom caps.

Yesterday, I smothered some grilled chicken in sautéed mushrooms and onions, topped it off with some shredded swiss cheese and broiled it until it was gooey and delicious.

Today, I stuffed one of the Portobello caps using this recipe. I made half of the spinach filling that the recipe calls for. After I removed the gills, I stuffed the cap with the mixture and baked it at 400 degrees for twenty minutes.

It looked like poop.

Well, at least in that picture it did. But it was SO yummy and filling too.

Wait… is this better?

Anyway, I’m a bit nervous about this week’s weigh-in since I haven’t worked out like I should have. Plus I’ve been stressed out, which usually translates into elevated cortisol levels which translates into belly fat. (Can you say poster child?) I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens. Wish me luck… I have a feeling I’m going to need it 🙂

  1. Running is always more pleasant when you’re in shape. It’s kind of a downward spiral; I’m out of shape so I don’t want to run so I get more out of shape so I don’t want to runs so… Yeah, you get it. Whenever I work out I blast Britney Spears or Christina Aguilera or something of the sort. It gives me major motivation.

  2. You crack me up – I listen to music while shuffling (why call it running? Let’s get real, I shuffle) so I can’t hear my breathing too! Ha ha! I cheated on weighing in and just checked in on my own scale – I have actually been very good about working out etc. and I am up a pound. Boo! Not looking forward to my WW weigh in on Saturday. • Drink lots of water. That’s what I’m doing because I know I haven’t been drinking enough. From what I’ve read it’s actually pretty common to have a mini plateau during the first month. That’s when I look in the mirror and say “good enough” and quit 🙂 but not this time.

  3. MInnesota weather on Monday will range from -4 to -20 below zero and that’s without factoring windchill. We saw your weather of the 50’s. For Sale needs to be posted. You got fresh air and Vitamin D, it’s something focus on the positive to kick out the cortisol. Good luck!
